Wellesley College Reading and ReceptionThe Writing Program welcomes accomplished Irish poet Joan McBreen for a reading of her poetry followed by a wine and cheese reception at The Newhouse Center for the Humanities Lounge, Wellesley College

"Joan McBreen brought the sea winds and lilting language of the West of Ireland to the Wellesley campus when she visited this fall. During her reading, accompanied by traditional music, we walked the roads of Connemara with her, sometimes laughing, sometimes nostalgic, sometimes longing for those who cannot be with us."

"When Lynne Viti and I took ten Wellesley College students to Ireland for an advanced writing course in June of 2018, Joan and Joe McBreen welcomed us with open arms and showed us the hills, the dales, and the poems embedded in the Letterfrack and surrounding landscape. They took us on hiking adventures in the Connemara National Park, to the Renvyle, Peninsula, and memorably, to Omey Island when the tide was right. Joan also organized a moving poetry reading at Artisan House including herself, Geraldine Mitchell, and Eamon Grennan, "Poetry Unbridled." The students connected so deeply with Joan, that she has graciously agreed to visit Wellesley College this fall and share her work and expertise with us again."
